Hurry up, Harry! It's time for Transfiguration class.

A clever blend of magic-driven story and classic role-playing elements, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone GBC is sure to please Harry Potter and RPG fans alike.

The game skips Harry's sad early days among the loathsome Dursleys and starts out with a Daigon Alley shopping spree. After that, he travels by train and boat to his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where a class in Broom Flying, a dust-up with a giant three-headed dog named Fluffy and many other strange events ensue.

Most RPGs feature teams whose individual members have widely varying strengths and weaknesses, but Harry Potter is the sole hero here. Help is available, though, in the form of more than 100 different Famous Witches and Wizards Cards, which Harry uses to conjure magic.

Physical attacks, another standard RPG element, are of little use for a slightly built boy facing ghouls and other supernatural adversaries. Fortunately, Harry's very first stop in Daigon Alley is Mr. Ollivander's wand shop, where he picks up a deluxe holly-and-phoenix-feather model. As Harry advances through the game, he'll learn an increasingly complex series of spells. Spells require Magic Points, but can be replenished with helpful items like Pumpkin Pasties.

Familiar faces like Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore and Professor Snape are all here. In keeping with the book's style, the screen text has many droll touches. And while the game closely follows both book and movie, the RPG elements add a unique twist.

All in all, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone GBC offers a unique gaming experience that's distinctly different from the more action-oriented Game Boy Advance game of the same name. Whether you're a Harry fan who's never played an RPG or someone who's finished Golden Sun and is itching for more, this Harry Potter is an epic that's sure to enchant.
